When you need a ticket

Super Nintendo World is not ticketed every day. Universal says that, depending on park attendance, you may need an Area Timed Entry Ticket, or an Advance Booking ticket, to enter some areas, and that at times you can enter without one. Even with a ticket, the attractions, restaurants and shops in the area can be full or closed by the time you arrive, so a ticket gets you into the area, not onto every ride. Because the rule changes with the day, check the official app once you are inside the park rather than relying on what you read before you travelled.

The three kinds of ticket

An Advance Booking ticket is the only one you can hold before you arrive. Universal says you get it with certain Express Passes, or in packages from selected travel agencies. Timed Entry Tickets come from the official app after you enter the park. Standby Entry Tickets start once the planned number of timed tickets has gone, and they are a lottery: only people selected may enter, at the time on the ticket, and winners are not chosen in the order tickets were issued. Universal can stop or pause issuing tickets without notice.

Step by step in the app

Area tickets run through the official app, and Universal says it has been required for them since 5 January 2026. The app is free to download. It needs the latest version, iOS 17.0 or Android 9.0 or later, and an internet connection in the park. Universal also notes that the Super Nintendo World functions are not available on some devices, so check yours before you travel. Register every Studio Pass in your group so the whole group gets the same time.

• Register each Studio Pass QR code in the app; you can do it before you enter the park
• Inside the park, request a Timed Entry Ticket, or a Standby ticket if timed ones are gone
• Show the ticket at the area entrance at your time
• Do not uninstall the app before you use the ticket, or it becomes invalid

Rules that catch people out

Tickets are issued only inside the park, and your Studio Pass must be valid for that day and registered. You can get one timed ticket per day, and once it is issued the time, the number of tickets and the area cannot be changed. You cannot be issued a Standby ticket if you already hold a timed one. If your Studio Pass is not read properly at the entrance gate, the app will not issue you a timed ticket. Tickets cannot be transferred or resold. A pass bought through a booking site can take a day after purchase before its QR code links in the app, so link it early.

Yoyakunori Reserve & Ride

Yoyakunori Reserve & Ride is the attraction version of the same system. It lets you reserve a ride time for applicable attractions in the app, then eat, shop or play until your slot. The steps are the same: register your Studio Pass, then request the ticket inside the park. Children aged 3 and under without a Studio Pass can get these tickets too. You can still join the regular queue for any attraction without one. If the app cannot read your Studio Pass QR code, Universal points you to the kiosks at each attraction, so ask a crew member.

Getting to the park

The train station for the park is Universal City, on the JR Sakurajima Line, which is also called the JR Yumesaki Line. The line joins the Osaka Loop Line at Nishikujo. From Namba, one route is the Hanshin Namba Line to Nishikujo and then the JR Yumesaki Line. Universal's access page also covers Umeda, Shin-Osaka, Itami Airport and Kansai Airport, with travel-time estimates. There are long-distance buses from many cities, a sea shuttle between the Kaiyukan West Wharf and Universal City Port, parking and a taxi stand. Check each operator for its timetable.

At the gate: security, bags and lockers

Everyone goes through a security check with metal detectors and X-ray machines before entering, and re-entering means another check. Suitcases and roller bags are not allowed inside. Large lockers for them are outside the park, but they are limited, so leaving big bags at your hotel is the safer plan. Studio Passes, except Annual Passes, do not allow re-entry, even to fetch something from a locker or a car.

• No glass bottles, cans, lidded coffee cups or alcohol
• Food from outside may not be eaten in the park
• No tripods or monopods; only a small hand-held selfie stick
• No helmets, drones or pets; assistance dogs are allowed

Timing, season and weather

Opening hours are set date by date on Universal's schedule page and may change without notice, and on some days admission starts before the scheduled opening time. Shows and attractions can be cancelled for reasons such as weather, and individual attractions close temporarily, so check the closure list for your date. Seasonal events run through the year and are listed on the official site. Timed tickets stop once capacity is reached, and distribution can end early, so arriving at the start of your day keeps more options open.

Kids, height and access

Children aged 3 and under do not need a Studio Pass, and ages 4 to 11 use a child ticket. Every attraction has its own height requirement, checked by crew at the entrance, and some rides need a supervising guest of junior-high age or older. The park rents strollers for children up to 48 months and wheelchairs, both limited, not reservable and for use only inside the park. Guests with a disability certificate can buy a separate accessible admission pass from the official store. Universal's barrier-free guide lists facilities area by area.

Who this isn't for

If you want guaranteed area entry without an Express Pass or a package, note that Universal names only those two advance routes. If you would rather not depend on a phone, an app and a mobile connection, the timed and standby systems will frustrate you. If you travel with a suitcase and nowhere to leave it, plan for the limited outside lockers. And if you expect to step out and come back in, a Studio Pass does not allow it.
